Learning#1.1 Integration of SDGs for systemic solutions
Facilitator: Ms. Nitchakan Damaratat, social innovation and youth development officer, UNDP
The activity starts with a question “How satisfied are you with the global situation?”, following by background of the development which sacrifice is made in each era and the world has to jointly fix issues. Definition of the sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the new generation without taking the old generation’s needs for granted by studying lesson learned and creating collaboration among agencies, country leaders and vulnerable groups.
3 fundamental pillars of the sustainability are economy, society and environment. The pillars have to be balanced to prevent inequality in development. Execution in each aspect is interpreted to strengthen stakeholders in economic driving as well as protecting society and environment simultaneously.
Performing SDGs is considered sustainability? The answer is No. We need to consider work operations that will not create new problems by taking 4 principles of SDGs into account, i.e., Inclusive/ Indivisible/ Universal/ Transformative.
For Inclusive principle that allow everybody to access resources, we need to verify scope of work and answer the following questions.
- Who are stakeholders?
- Who will get benefits?
- How will we compensate affected people?
- How will we reach the people as much as possible?
For Indivisible principle that aims to integrate and connect everything together, the key questions are as follows.
- Do our solutions deprive any group of people of rights?
- Is there collaboration?
- How is our task related to economic, social and environmental aspects?
- How do we prioritize issues? And how to enhance our solutions to cover many aspects?
- Does benefit from development create inequality to other groups?
For Transformative principle that aims to solve root cause, the key questions are as follows.
- What are unique issues in such area?
- What are local resources? What is influence over operations?
Participants are required to specify their tasks in each SDGs regarding how the tasks related to the 4 principles of SDGs (Inclusive/ indivisible/ Universal/ Transformative) and which level based on main context of the tasks. Then, they have to pair up and share information about their work operations such as how to establish association, how to get budget support from The Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre (SBPAC).
